So, like I said the other night, I've not been drinking this last week (well, I did last night and remembered what poison can do to yr body), instead turning to tea at nights to wet my whistle.
To make it a little more interesting (not that tea is BORING per se, it's just... not booze) I decided to make a chai drink. It may not be entirely traditional, but I like the flavor.
I steep Irish breakfast tea in the boiling water and stir in a little less than 1/2 teaspoon each of: cocoa powder, powdered ginger, and cinnamon. Sweetened with agave and add in a good splash of vanilla almond milk.
It's especially nice tonight, since it's snowing outside. Snow can transform even dirty, tired Bushwick into a sparkly magicland. Some shots from the walk home:
I thew a shot of coffee into the chai as well tonight, as I've got lotsa writing I want to get done (that was the "exciting stuff" to work on, Ingrid - sorry to tease!) and snacked on a couple of these cookie bites for dessert.
So now I'm caffeinated and cookiefied and warm. So that's nice. Hope you guys are cozy on this winter weekend evening.

Oh man I am so not enjoying this weather! And our heat went out last night! Waking up this morning was painful torture... I had on two shirts, two pairs of pants and 2 blankets and was still frozen! It's fixed now thankfully. I could have used some of that chai this morning though, it sounds amazing!!!! The cookie bites look really yummy too and I love your pics of the snowy evening! So pretty!
ReplyDeleteOh, man, it's been freezing here too! The heat is on but it doesn't make a difference. I was dressed similiarly - sweatpants, two shirts and two scarves. Wow, how pathetic. It is pretty though...
DeleteI've been drinking a lot of chai lately too. Mixing it with coffee is a great way to stay up and get stuff done. Yum to those cookies.
ReplyDeleteSomething about the spices warms you up even better than the hot tea itself. So nice.
DeleteYour chai sounds really good! I've only had it a few times but do like it.
ReplyDeleteDid you make the snow angel? I had fun making one this year but forgot how hard it is to get up from it..... although maybe that's just because the last time I made one was when I was much younger. heh
The cookie bites look perfect. I'm very jealous of your being cookiefied!
Haha, no, I was already too cold to lie down in the snow. Some kid must have done it. The cookies were just alright. I'm sure you could have made better.
DeleteYay for snow! 'Bout time, right?
ReplyDeleteA mug of chai is the perfect way to cozy in while it's snowing--looks perfect to me!
Seriously! We only got about an inch, but I'll take what I can get. Any excuse for cookies and tea :)
DeleteI loove snowy days! And chai tea! And cookies! And usually not drinking, although because it's my bday weekend, I decided to indulge a bit. But, for serious, it is kinda poison.
ReplyDeleteI will take snuggling with cookies and tea over booze any snowy night.
DeleteI love these snow photos! I wish my camera took better night shots. I like Irish Breakfast Tea, too.
ReplyDeleteCaffeinated, cookiefied, and warm is a great way to be! After a streak of warm weather, it's overcast and chilly today. I am caffeinated, but needing a blanket and cookies. BRB. . .
Thanks, the streetlights make it super orangey but eh. Hie thee to some cookies, stat.
DeleteSo you're a Chai drinking Wiccan from Bushwick now? What ever happened to that old plank of wood you used to write and eat on?
ReplyDeleteEw, when you put it that way, I want my wood plank back. It's actually still at Greg's, I realized the other day.
DeleteYou are making me miss Brooklyn! (Even though I never spent any significant time in Bushwick--it was all Ft Greene 90% of the time. But your apartment looks so much like ours did.) That chai sounds like the best possible choice for a snowy evening. :)
ReplyDeleteFort Greene is lovely. Yeah, I'm pretty sure there are only three different layouts of Brooklyn apartments.
DeleteSNOW DAY! and CHAI DAY! Looks like you're winning over there. Maybe some brandy in the chai next time though..
ReplyDeleteSmart!
DeleteMmm, chai, now you're getting all fancy. I'm just doin' up the green stuff over here, with the occasional hibiscus tea for when I don't want to be caffeinated. Which happens occasionally. Snow is pretty...for like, a month. And then I am ready for it to go away.
ReplyDeleteHm I don't know that I've ever had hibiscus tea. I'm not a huge fan of herbal teas but they can be nice.
