Been a little sick. I feel fine but sound gross. Hence:
Pink Lady apple, hot Earl Grey tea, Liquiteria's The Killer XX (with ginger, cayenne, echinacea, goldenseal, and all other kinds of cool and mysterious herbs.)
Also from Liquiteria, Roasted Veggie Soup:
This was awesome and thick. I thought they mistakenly gave me mushroom barley. This had potatoes, leeks, carrots, celery, other stuffs.
Been trying to eat lotsa greens:
Raw broccoli, chopped apple, tempeh, carrot in Braggs and red pepper flakes.
Also this:
Spinach, tempeh, avocado, tomato, sweet potato with sriracha.
Also when you are sick it is nice to go to yr parents' house and let them hug you and then....make them lunch. (Well, it was their anniversary. I'LL ALLOW IT.)
Steam/Stir-fried green beans with bell pepper and shallots, roasted portabella mushroom in soy sauce, leftover (from Christmas!) sweet potato.
I even remembered to take my vitamin this morning. Here's to health. What do you usually like to eat/do to feel better when you get sick?
Oh! Hey! You know what else made me feel TONS better today?? The CUNY Brooklyn library bought a copy of every issue of my food zine, Marmalade Umlaut today!! I am so pumped!! I haven't made a new issue in quite some time but I have renewed excitement in the project. So. Stay tuned for some of that soon, hopefully?

Ahhhh how exciting about Marmalade Umlaut!!! I'm so stoked for you and hopefully this means we'll get a new issue! Glad that it got you excited about it again!
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry you haven't been feeling well but it certainly looks like you've been eating well and healthfully. That soup sounds delicious. I love thick soups. Your salads/bowls look bright and tasty too and it looks like your parents cooked up a great meal.
Feel better!!
Yeah, I wrote down some new ideas today. I don't know why I stopped but it'll be good to get back into it!
DeleteThanks for the well wishes, hopefully I'll stop sniffling quickly.
Told ya you were talented. I totally called it. The next issue should be a blow-by-blow account of New Years 2013.
ReplyDeleteHope you didn't pass on your illness to the parents.
That Sweet Potato is fascinating BTW.
AWwww thanks Shen. I'll interview my friend about New Years. maybe he can trigger some memories. All he's said so far is "You were funny."
DeleteThe sweet potato is weird, right?? It's all sunken into itself....
Uber congrats. You deserved to be pumped. Hope you are feeling better with the triple x juice. Happy Happy to the parental unit. Virtual hugs to them...since you know it's their anniversary and stuff.
ReplyDeleteand I'm up for adoption.
Danke Gigi! I will mention yr adoption status to the folks. They keep telling me what an empty house they have...and they love to have vegans cook for them, so it's looking good!
DeleteI am sobbing with happiness...so is my mom.
DeleteYay! Congratulations, Maud! You should look for them on the rack? shelf? once they are out in circulation! So cool!
ReplyDeleteI hope this means you are nearly well. I'm a little worried about getting something, now that I'm back at school. I like ginger ale, crackers, and tomato soup when I am unwell.
It looks like you were feeding yourself lots of colorful veggies, a great way to boost up the system!
Tomato soup! I want! And yeah, I've certainly been washing my hands a lot. Stay healthy!
DeleteThat's so awesome that the library bought every copy of your zine!! Very, very cool! That has to make up for being sick at least a little bit.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you're eating yourself back to good health with lots of nourishing, healing foods. I hope you feel better soon!
Thank you, Cadry! Boy am I glad I don't lose my appetite when I get sick... that would be depressing.
DeleteYou saying you've been trying to eat lots of greens is like me saying I've been trying to eat lots of cake. These meals are just the same as your regular, healthful meals and I for one think that you getting sick has been a horrible injustice.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the library acquisition; that's ridiculously awesome for you & the card holders.
maybe I should try to eat more cake instead... But don't front! What's this I hear about a water fast??
DeleteI agree: totally unjust. That's what I get for talking to people :(
whoa, congrats on the zine news, that's amazing!
ReplyDeletehope all of those yummy, nutrient dense foods bring you magic healing powers soon :)
Thanks Jess. You and yrs stay healthy too!
DeleteI'm very attracted to the veggie soup, but the thing that is most exciting is the library deal! Congrats. That's pretty great.
ReplyDeleteThank you Andrea. Soup and zines both make me very happy.
DeleteThat's awesome about your zine! I'd be excited, too! It's such a great zine and you definitely deserve it. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat foods for getting over being sick. I had a cold for a very short time last month and am counting myself lucky because everyone at work has been constantly sick. I drank at least 8 cups of hibiscus based tea every day (and still drink a lot of it) and that seemed to help a lot. A ton of antioxidants in it!
Thanks molly! I'm sure yr kind review convinced them.
DeleteThe tea sounds like magic! I should go find some of that. People at my job have been really sick too, so I guess I'm lucky it's not worse.
I wish you better health! At least you've been eating well, I know when I get sick all I want to eat is crap like ramen and grilled cheese sammies, ha ha. :) And great news about the library, that's way too cool!
ReplyDeleteOoh, I sure could go for some ramen too though. I just don't have any. The miso soup is doing it for me instead.
DeleteYour colorful foods always inspire me! Even though my fridge is full of all the same ingredients seen in your meals, I feel like I only ever eat crackers! I am envious that you enjoy raw broccoli - it's not my favorite.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the library carrying your zine! I still reference my copies pretty regularly. :)
Feel better soon! That juice ought to do it!
Well, now that I'm on the mend I'll be sure to eat lots of crackers too :) You are probably a lot busier than I am anyway.
DeleteThanks so much for the congrats...and enjoying the zines!
My go-to sicky remedies: zinc lozenges (i like the Zand brand, as it's sugar-free), hot water with lemon, tons of regular water, rest!, lots of oranges/orange juice, jamba juice smoothies with immunity boost, and this soup minus the beans and grains: http://ohsheglows.com/2011/04/25/husbands-healing-stew/
ReplyDeleteThat stuff always works for me!
Hooray for the zines! How cool! I had a zine once. I only made one issue, but I got to do a reading with Cristy Road during Chicago Ladyfest! So kind fail, but kind of not!
Oh, and this smoothie: http://rebelgrrlkitchen.com/2012/03/12/cold-busting-grapefruit-smoothie/
DeleteWas sick as a pike last week too - couldn't eat anything. Once I was able to keep food down, all I wanted was vegan chilli cheese dogs. While they were pretty high on the awesomometer, I probably would have been netter off with the raw veggies and soup. Good call on the Sriracha though. That shiz has magic powers!
ReplyDeleteProps on the marmalade umlaut loving too!
I'm glad I can eat when I feel sick...otherwise I'd probably come out of it craving uber comfort food too.
DeleteHope you're feeling better! The goodies from liquiteria look like a nice combo for getting rid of the yuck. And congrats on the zine!!!
ReplyDeleteYes Liquiteria always knows how to do right by a body. And thank you!
DeleteGet well soon! Add even more cayenne and ginger to your other awesome foods and you'll kick the baddies out fast.
ReplyDeleteHuge congrats on the CUNY library purchase of your zines. Wish I had a library card there!!
XOXO
I ought to eat more garlic, that's what I need!
DeleteThanks for the kudos :)
Sounds like you're doing everything right to kick that cold- From soup to juice, those are all things I would have suggested, so I can't add much else other than an encouraging "Feel better soon!"
ReplyDeleteI'll take it! Hope you stay out of the path of the germs....
